Chakra Totems I
The word "chakra" comes from the Sanskrit word meaning wheel and refers to physical or spiritual energy centers in the body. Although this word has its origins in Hinduism and other Asian cultures, these areas of the body are recognized by healing practices all over the world.
This particular painting is the first totem painting that came to me in dreams. I was surprised to find that each chakra could have its own animal totem and that they each had much to say. I did further investigations into each chakra through the assistance of the shamanic journey. As I painted each animal and worked with the energy of that chakra, I found it immensely healing. These animal guides are very unique to each chakra and differ for each person. In this personal Chakra Totem painting, the animals are painted in the way I saw them. Their message in this straight forward positioning is their way of letting me know I am seen. Eye contact with animals in nature is very different than how I experience them in my journeys and dream visions. So it is with great respect that I try to honor them best I can with careful attention to these subtle details and energetic expressions.
These compassionate guides of the chakras can act as facilitators to bring our attention to that which is needed most.
